Step into the imagined world of Sam Jinks, one of Australia's most prominent contemporary sculptural artists.
Renowned for his painstakingly crafted figures, Jinks' practice reflects upon deeply felt moments of our lived experience.
Sam Jinks || Mortal Reflections marks the first major exhibition in Tasmania by this talented artist — a rare opportunity for audiences to encounter a collection of sculptures not typically accessible to the public.
QVMAG will transform its entire upper level of the Royal Park site into an intimate contemporary art experience. Throughout this exhibition magical figures are held forever suspended within the uncanny realms of Jinks' sculpted hyperrealism.
Imbued with unguarded emotion and raw vulnerability, this unique presentation is one artist's invitation to reflect on the mysteries of: life || death, and all in-between.
Saturday 23 August 2025 - Sunday 30 November 2025 Launceston
The Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery (QVMAG) and City of Launceston proudly presents Shapeshifting: The Art of Helen Wright—an exhibition celebrating one of Tasmania's most enduringly vital and visionary artists.
Spanning over four decades of creative inquiry, Shapeshifting explores Helen Wright's remarkable capacity for enduring transformation.
Working across painting, drawing, printmaking, and sculpture, Wright embodies the archetypal shapeshifter—an artist capable of moving between mediums and meanings, inhabiting different states, and slipping between boundaries both physical and metaphysical.
Helen Wright's work responds to a world marked by ecological unease and existential fragility. Recurring motifs such as vessels, birds, and ruinous landscapes exist across media - each one an allegory of contemporary life.
At once intimate and expansive, Helen Wright's art resists containment and rewards our own deeper interrogations. Shapeshifting is a testament to Wright's enduring contribution to Australian art, and to the power of art as both container for ideas and catalyst for change.

ArtStart returns to QVMAG in 2025, celebrating the creativity of northern Tasmania's youngest artists.
Open to students from Kindergarten to Grade 6, each ArtStart exhibition is guided by a unique theme designed to inspire young artistic minds. In 2025, students will respond to this year's NAIDOC Week theme: The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy.
NAIDOC Week 2025 marks a powerful milestone: 50 years of honouring and elevating Indigenous voices, culture, and resilience.
This year's theme celebrates not only the achievements of the past but the bright future ahead, empowered by the strength of our young leaders, the vision of our communities, and the legacy of our ancestors.
Students are encouraged to explore and experiment with pattern, texture, and materials, creating works in any medium, including drawing, painting, photography, and mixed media.
A long-standing QVMAG initiative, ArtStart nurtures children's engagement with the visual arts and is made possible through the generous support of the Terry and Nan Woodward ArtStart legacy.
