Eat
Food and community is at the heart of this fertile region, where winter brings bold flavours, heartwarming dishes and a chance to slow down and savour every bite.
Warm up from the inside out with hot oysters fresh from the sea, the earthy aroma of freshly unearthed truffles and the smooth, lingering taste of single malt whisky.
Let your taste buds take a journey through the region, from cosy country pubs serving up slow-cooked feasts to intimate cellar doors where the wine flows freely and the stories are just as rich.
Wherever you stay in the west and north west, nature is never far away.
Wake up to misty valley views, step out onto a deck overlooking wild oceans or fall asleep to the sounds of little penguins shuffling home for the night.
The west and north west is for slow mornings cradling a cup of coffee, for stargazing from steaming hot tubs and for finding warmth in the simple pleasures of winter.
Tall trees and oceanic vistas are just the beginning. Stay for a few days – you’ll need time to take it all in.

Thursday 17 July 2025 - Saturday 19 July 2025 (Annual) Currie
Anchoring the season is the King Island Anchorage Festival, a laid-back celebration of local culture, creativity, and connection. It's a weekend of shared stories, and community warmth, where the island's rugged spirit truly shines.
At its heart is Sea-ing Light: an immersive audio-visual experience projected onto the iconic Currie Lighthouse and historic Lens Room. The artwork created by acclaimed artist Alex Moss, will transform these emblematic structures into glowing canvases and a "playable instrument" that visitors can actively participate with.
Also not to be missed are 'Weathering', a heartfelt exhibition by local artists reflecting on the recent drought and capturing the resilience and humanity of the King Island community, and 'Fathom', an underwater dance and sound experience created right here on King Island to mark 150 years since the tragic wreck of the Cataraqui.
The Anchorage Festival celebrates the quiet magic of winter on Tasmania's wild west isle, inviting all to illuminate their winter and ignite their inner light. This windswept island doesn't do winter like the rest of Australia. Here, the pace slows, the stories deepen, and the sense of place glows. From the crackle of bonfires to a lighthouse lit with light and meaning, King Island comes alive in its own raw, elemental way.
Chocolate Winterfest is Latrobe's wickedly delicious festival celebrating all things chocolate.
It is no coincidence that the Latin name for cocoa, from which chocolate is made, translates as "food of the gods". Some cultures even valued chocolate more than gold, and who could blame them. Just the mere mention of chocolate turns heads and that's what Chocolate Winterfest, Latrobe will do to you.
Chocolate Winterfest, Latrobe will indulge, inform, astound, amuse but above all celebrate chocolate as you escape from the bleakness of winter. Be indulged by events individually or successively as you immerse in this chocolate experience.
Don't deny one of life's pleasures - join us at Latrobe on the central northern coast of Tasmania for this unique celebration.

Launched as part of the Permission to Trespass winter events in Wynyard Tasmania "Moonlight Stories" provides a stunning visual platform for winter projections of artwork on the Table Cape lighthouse. It is part of the Sensing Table Cape experience.
Moonlight represents an important cultural touchstone to the local north west tribe, the Tommeginner who travelled seasonally across the north west, including Table Cape. The full moon represented a time for Tommeginner people to gather, share food, spiritual experiences, stories, and knowledge around fire light. Moonlight Stories provides us an opportunity to connect to a similar experience, an opportunity to learn, and share stories and knowledge around a different kind of light, but still under moonlight again.
The inaugural projection has been created by local artist Caleb Nichols-Mansell. Caleb presents a projected artwork “TUNAPRI”, with an accompanying soundscape that responds to place through the vision, creativity, and voice of a contemporary Tasmanian Aboriginal artist. Projected visuals in the form of original paintings, drawings and digital illustrations will tell the story of country.
The deep time connections of a culture and community who are connected to place, people, and time will come together to honour those who have gone before and look forward to the future.
Don Market, is one of the oldest markets on the northwest coast of Tasmania and has been operating for over 48 years. A dynamic, ever evolving market boasts both indoor and outdoor stalls(weather permitting). A great range of stalls - from fresh fruit and vegetables, to plant stalls, regular craft and makers products, new handbags, bric-a-brac and so much more and a sit-down or takeaway cafe in the back of the hall. We have regular weekly stallholders and also transient stalls which come alternate weeks or even just drop in once or just now and then. This adds to the interest and the market is usually not the same two weeks in a row.
The hall itself shares some historical values maintaining its old fashioned façade and noticeboards of years gone by, and from the Don Memorial Hall where the market is held, you can look across the road to the Don River and the popular Don Railway.
Set against the stunning backdrop of Tasmania's picturesque coastline, the Wynyard Foreshore Market is a vibrant celebration of community and creativity.
