Artisans are masters of their craft, using skill, patience, and specialised tools to create works that reflect a deep passion for their chosen material. For Simon, that material is leather. He first learned leatherwork in high school and began making whips as a hobby. As appreciation for his work grew, he realised he could turn his passion into a lifelong vocation. Together with his wife Sophie, Simon has built a skilled team producing a diverse range of leather goods that attract visitors from all over the world Each piece reflects a strong tradition of craftsmanship and passion that the team is committed to sharing. More than a retail space, Simon Martin Whips & Leathercraft offers visitors a gateway into Australian rural life and heritage. Visitors can pre-book a tour or drop in to browse an international collection of whips while observing master craftspeople at work. Families are welcomed, with children able to participate in hands-on activities such as making their own leather coaster or keyring while adults explore the retail space or watch items being made. The retail store features quality brands including R.M.Williams, Akubra, Redback Boots, Leatherman, and Swanndri alongside their own handcrafted leather goods. Simon Martin Whips & Leathercraft offers a unique Tasmanian experience and operates weekdays but is closed weekends, public holidays, and for a three-week period over Christmas.
