Meet our editorial team
As you might have guessed, we’re pretty fond of Tasmania.
Our Editorial Team lives and breathes all things Tasmania (lucky for us, we’re inhaling the cleanest air in the world). A passion for authenticity is the thread connecting us to the island's humble producers, skilled distillers, innovative chefs and friendly tour guides. We’re serving up meaningful travel experiences across this remarkable isle – from wildlife and wilderness to creativity and cuisine.
If you want to explore every corner of Tasmania – hidden gems, unmissable adventures and everything in between – then grab a cuppa, get cosy and sift through local stories, itineraries and helpful guides.
Hi, I'm Annie McCann.
Annie is a Tasmanian editor, writer and oyster fiend. Experienced in journalism, content marketing and copywriting, Annie has a Bachelor of Business and Arts majoring in Marketing and Journalism from the University of Tasmania. She studied Multimedia and World Politics at the Danish School of Media and Journalism, with the EU as her training ground. A former News Corp Australia reporter, Annie’s byline has popped up over the years in the Mercury, the Australian and the Australian Business Review.
Now at Tourism Tasmania, she brings local stories to life on Discover Tasmania, pairing her SEO and UX skills with Tasmania’s distinctive brand voice. It’s been Annie’s great privilege to lead Sustainability Marketing Masterclasses for the local tourism community, who have entrusted her with their stories.
HI I'm Elinor Sheargold.
Elinor (call me El) is a writer, editor and digital communications specialist with over 15 years honing her craft across tourism, not-for-profit and environment sectors. A Charles Sturt University "Mitchell Mafia" graduate with a Bachelor of Communications (Journalism), El’s wordsmithery skills have taken her from media and campaigns at UNICEF Australia and Variety Club UK, to marketing backpacker travel with YHA.
A diverse decade followed at NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service, leading content strategy and digital storytelling projects for some of Australia’s most visited national parks. Personal favourite: BatCam.
Returning to Tasmania (she grew up in Devonport), El has been writing Discover Tasmania destination and campaign content for Tourism Tasmania since 2024. She admits a soft spot for wildlife, conservation and sustainable travel stories. You’ll usually find her in the garden, kayaking the Huon River, or plotting new travels.
Hi, I'm Zofia Zayons.
Zofia has worked in tourism and hospitality since 2011, starting out at ski fields and island resorts before a decade of communications and brand roles across the wine and travel industries brought her to Tasmania for good. She spent four years as a brand communicator for Pernod Ricard Winemakers and managed cellar door operations and communications at Mewstone Wines before joining Tourism Tasmania in 2022, where she writes destination and campaign content for Discover Tasmania.
Zofia holds a WSET Level 3 Award in Wines, a Bachelor of Communication and Media Studies, and has studied Climate Change Leadership and Sustainable Development Project Management at Uppsala University. Her specialist areas include inclusive travel, nature-based and responsible tourism, and Tasmanian food and wine, drawing on both her lived experience and fifteen years working in the industry.
Ali Millar.
Ali is a born and bred Tasmanian writer and editor with a soft spot for the island’s white sand beaches, sea-salty air and laidback campgrounds. She has more than 15 years’ experience in writing and editing roles and a background in travel journalism and marketing.
Ali’s diverse experience includes developing Australian travel content for both digital and print publications, including at Bauer Media (now Are Media) and the Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service. A highlight: touring Australia in a 4WD, writing for camping and caravanning magazines. She joined Tourism Tasmania in 2020 and has been creating destination content for Discover Tasmania ever since.
Ali holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Editing and Communications from the University of Melbourne and a Bachelor of Arts and Commerce from the University of Tasmania.
